Re: DHCP/DNS/Network issues with testlab - Virtual Network Editor is killing me!

As far as Networking goes you need to read Chapter 5 "Configuring Network Connections" in Using VMware Workstation (PDF) so as to have a better understanding of the VMware Virtual Network Infrastructure and then if using Bridged you should disable automatic bridging on VMnet0 in the Virtual Network Editorand assign a specific Host network Adapter.

Also have a look at: Understanding networking types in hosted products (1006480)

As far as "What should the NAT's SubnetIP/Mask/Gateway be set to" VMnet8 is configured by default and if you want to use a different IP Address then change it in the Virtual Network Editor to match what you want to use in the DC.

Just for future reference the vmware.log file should be in the same folder as the .vmx and .vmdk files, the files that comprise the Virtual Machine itself.

As far as any bug, Darius is a VMware Employee and I'm sure he'll ping the appropriate developer to take a look.

Awesome on that note.

Also, thanks for mentioning the preferences file.  I found that ethernet adapter had an upstream and downstream limitation at 2000 and 70000 respectively.  I have no clue how that ended up flagged.  Have it fully opened up now.

RAM fix + bandwidth open = AMAZING!

Shutdown ESXi via vSphere web Client?

I have installed vSphere Web Client 5.0.0.3288 on my vCenter server.

But I found that vSphere Web Client 5.0 does not have a choice to shutdown or restart ESXi host. I wonder whether it is possible to shutdown or restart ESXi via vSpehre Web Client.

I remember that certain site told me that vSphere client will be decprecated in the future and only vSphere Web client can manage ESXi host. And some setting just can be done via

vSphere web client from vSphere5.1. Is it right? If I installed vSphere Web Client 5.1, can I shutdown or restart ESXi host? Is it possible to use vSphere Client 5.1 to manage ESXi5.0

because my esxi host is 5.0. You can see the attachement for hte evidence of that there is no option to shutdown or restart ESXi host.

I've tried reproducing the issue you describe on one of my systems here, and I'm unable to do so.  I tried with an Ubuntu 64-bit VM, made it a Shared VM, and even copied the rather unusual memory configuration you have set in your /etc/vmware/config, but everything still worked just as it should, and I have no trouble clicking the "Save" button when adjusting the memory size well above 8 GBytes.  I can subsequently power on the VM with no trouble too.

So... There is some as-yet-undetermined factor at play.  I tested with Debian 6.0.6 x64 on the host machine, not the Xubuntu 12.04 x64 you're using there, so it might be something distro-specific, perhaps.  If you happen to observe anything else that triggers (or cures) this problem, please do let me know so we can work on tracking it down and fixing it.

Thanks,

Windows 2008 R2 Managed Service accounts and VSphere question

Hello all

Have been lurking around here for awhile, as I do my research for a vCenter build. I have a question and would like some of the veterans input on the subject.

I will be running my vSphere environment, and was wondering if I could use Managed Service Accounts in the Active Directory to run some of the vCenter network services ? Has anyone tried this with any luck?... I did attempt to google the subject but came up with no answers. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

WS9.0.2 : RHEL6.3 guest cannot access winXP host license server

Hi Everyone

I am currently using vmware workstation 9.0.2-build 1031769 and is facing the following problem:

- Guest : RHEL6.3
- Host : WinXP SP3
- Machine : Lenovo T410
- Uses NAT vmware networking mode

My rhel guest is unable to access the license server on my winXP. The setup is as follows:
- Run flexLM lmgrd on winXP. License server started successfully
- Run "traceroute" in rhel to get IP address
- Add the IP in /etc/hosts

I am able to execute the following successfully:
- ping localhost
- ping myWinXP_IP
- Get license from external license server
- ssh/telnet to other machines

But using "lmstat -a -c 5280@myWinXP_IP" results in the following:

Error getting status: Cannot connect to license server system. (-15,570:115 "Operation now in progress")

May I have some suggestions on how to resolve the problem?
- Using "bridge" mode does not solve the problem

Thanks
kamechan

Can not logon to vCenter Webservice

ESXi 5.1.0, 1117900

vCenter Server 5.1.0, 1123961

I installed vCenter Server with Single Server Sign-on and all went well until I tried to logon to the Web Service.  No matter what I tried I could not logon, except after installing the Microsoft Session Authentication.  I can successfully logon with Windows Authentication, but not with vCenter Authentication.  During setup the Username was grayed out with admin@Service-Domain.  My domain is spatialhaze.com, so I have been using admin@spatialhaze.com and the password I set with no success.  Any guidance would be appreciated.

TIA,

stmux

I am confused about where to install ESXi 5.0. Is it on a windows Server or UCS blades if you have UCS blades and EMC SANs

I know we need to install vcenter, do an initial set up on Cisco UCS blades. Do I need to connect EMC Sans?

How to set these all up ? I need some tutorial step by steps for these 3 kind of hardware to put together.

Thanks!

I read vCenter4.1 and 5 install requirement document and it says it needs 2 core CPU and those clock should be more than 2.0 GHz.

If this requirement is not met, installation will fail ?

Thanks for reply.

Lately I have realised that this error message is because one of the following reasons.

- VT is not enabled in BIOS

- CPU is not capable of VT

There is a simple Microsoft tool to check CPU VT capability and BIOS configuration. details about the tool is documented here . http://virtualcloudzz.blogspot.com.au/2013/06/steps-to-check-processor-cpu-vt.html

I had similar issue while implementing VMware view local mode, I have seen similar error message on client PC after View desktop checkout and power on. More details here

Cant install VMware trial

1 day down 29 to go.

I had this program installed previously on this computer many moons ago.

my buddy did it. I assume he used his account.

I was running out of HD space one day and I deleted it . I just had to have dexter season 6 or something equally ridiculous. Anyways, here I am trying to reinstall it. I have tried every single thing I can find on this and other various forums to help me accomplish this seeming lofty goal of simple software installation.

I have :

run CMD in admin

cleaned the temp folder

/clean

/z "action"="install"

I have even tried some of the registry fixes

I have tried rebooting the computer when my error 1920 comes up

then I don't have admin privileges

sometimes I get one of 100 MSI errors when installing it

sometimes it gets to the 1920 error

If I manage to get the program to run, I cant enter my key

I don't have admin rights.

so. any more suggestions ?

ive been thought the services too and the authorization one seems to be broken

I am the admin, I always have been, I always will be

I am not going to enter the regedit again.

thx if you can help

sorry for the sarcasm - its been a long of of being unable to install a program

FYI - UI use it to run a Linux box in WIN 7 Ultimate

Linux wont boot from bootdisk and allow me to use my WIFI range extender from Hawkins

thx again
